“Mediterranean: the sea border of the European Union”
Scientific Content of the Seminar:
One of the most emerging subjects of the discussion in the expanding E.U. is border zones. As for land boarders E.U. has to deal with European non member states only. In the case of sea borders though the E.U. meet its African and Asian neighbors. The main aim of the seminar is a multi-disciplinary approach to the impacts of this co – existence of cultures on an very complex field as the Med. Sea. The seminar will be carried out by three workshops which will deal with the case through three different perspectives. In particular we are going to examine the interaction between the E.U. and the Islamic world in terms of cultural and political impacts. Moreover, we are going to discuss the importance of the Mediterranean Sea as a trading field through an economical perspective and last but not least we will evaluate the impacts of human activities on the Mediterranean Ecosystem. Finally we are going to combine the out coming conclusions of the three workshops in order to come to a wholistic and more geographical approach of the “semi – European” Mediterranean Sea.
