Topics per Week:

Theory: The basic theoretical concepts of edaphology (creation and development of soils) are analyzed. Basic soil properties: Soil texture, soil structure, soil porosity, soil organic matter, cation exchange capacity, soil acidity, salinity and sodicity. The types of soil with their related ecosystems, and the circles of basic nutritious elements (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) are compared. It is also analyzed the importance of the natural and chemical attributes of soils for the rural and natural ecosystems. Basics of soil classification and mapping of soils. Laboratorial exercises: Laboratorial analyses for the determination of the major natural and chemical attributes of soil. Field exercises: Methodology and practice of sampling of soils.
