Samos is an island full of green that is located in the east part of the Aegean Sea. Its area is 478,2 square kilometers and it has about 35.000 residents. It consists of four municipalities and its capital is Vathi.
Samos is a mountainous island. The two tallest peaks are Kerkis (1443 meters height) and Ampelos (1160 meters height). Lowland areas are few. The lowland of Chora is the biggest and is located in the south part of the island, where the airport is also located.
Due to the high mountains, there is a lot of rainfall in the winter and as a result there is rich vegetation and many rich springs. Although there were many fires in the last years, Samos still remains an island with many green areas.
Samos produces many kinds of products, the major of which are the famous sweet wine and the olive oil. However, during the last years there is also a dynamic growth in tourism. In April the island starts to change face and especially in the summer months it is full of tourists.
Samos, especially in the Spring, is an ideal meeting place because it has frequent communication with Athens and Thessalonica, as well as connections with many European cities through charter flights. More specific, for somebody who wants to travel from Athens, there is daily communication with the port of Piraeus as well as the Eleftherios Venizelos airport.
