Nothing would remained Turkey or obligated Lesvians, if it wasn't the stamp with the 'doura' (turkish symbol).
The city kept its own way, with the gardens and the imposing homes of the 'ragiades' (people with financial and political power).
The road of course -as any other road in Mytilene- was not tarred, and the rain easily left the signs that the horse-cabs made.
At the right hand side, we can see the gate of the Italian consul's home, Alkibiades Fideli-Nezi, and a bit further the ome of the Russian consul Emmanouil Louka.
In the background and left, we can see the 'Vnarel(i)'.
At the end of the road was the Bishop's tower.

MakriG2.jpg (28081 bytes)   The beginning of Makris Gialos, as it is seen by someone who comes from the city.
We can just see a part of Tarlas, which was 'vakouf', in other words, a piece of land used for the public's benefit.
At the background, the gardens of the rich's homes, and the Amali mountain, full of olive trees.
