Abstract: “Citizens/ Workers participation at local level is part of the general debate regarding the
crisis of the market, the central political stage which faces a crisis of representation. New organisation
forms appear to represent innovations in governance based on empowerment modes and local participation. The
key trend is for the establishment of inclusive recovery mechanisms, which require the social partnership of
all the actors involved at local level. A discussion of international experience and the presentation of
specific cases of citizen participation will set the problematic as to what direction social change will take
in the future as well as what forms of social responsibility can meet current pressing social problems. The
different ecologies that relate to the ideological background of citizen participation and social
responsibility in the social economy among younger people in particular are of importance here as they relate
to specific social and national conditions. The role of skills and of educational institutions in this
particular issue needs to be further explored.”
